The Rome City School District is accepting applications for a full-time 12-month Dean of Students at Denti Elementary Schools. Selected candidate must possess NYS School Building Leader certification.

The Dean of Students (DOS) is a full-time position and a key member of the school’s leadership team, supporting the daily operations of the building with a focus on student attendance, behavior, and discipline. Emphasizing Restorative Justice and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the DOS works collaboratively with students, staff, and families to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. The DOS plays a central role in fostering a positive school culture rooted in accountability and care, aligning student behavior with district values and academic expectations. This position also supports building administrators in implementing a meaningful instructional program reflective of the Rome City School District community.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the philosophy and vision of the Rome City School District.
  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents/caregivers to create a safe, engaging, and positive school climate. 
  • Collaborate with all faculty, staff, students, parents, and caregivers to ascertain and address at-risk student behaviors, providing guidance and motivation for student success. 
  • Collaborate with the building’s administrative team to develop and facilitate appropriate restorative practices and procedures resulting in meaningful, fair, and effective discipline alternatives for students. 
  • Assist in facilitating and implementing disciplinary intervention steps, including restorative practices, RTI, PBIS, student mediation, and social-emotional learning strategies.
  • Assist in developing the staff’s in-class behavior management strategies. 
  • Assist in providing professional development in classroom management strategies, issues of discipline, and relationships with students. 
  • Meet with students referred by teachers for behavioral difficulties.
  • Engage students and parents relative to the school’s expectations for attendance and on-time arrival. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Throughout the term of employment, one must possess and maintain NYS School Building Leader (SBL) Certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to preparing every student for academic and life success. 
  • Demonstrated awareness of, and a strong willingness to support the Rome City School District’s commitment to eliminating race, class, disability, and gender as predictors of academic performance, co-curricular participation, and discipline.

SCHOOL DISTRICT NON-COMPETITIVE CLASSIFICATION

REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs professional nursing services at one or more schools in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school health records and the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems. Does related work as required.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for giving care to students and for performing related nursing services, such as pupil health screening and notification of defects and communicable disease control requiring judgment and skills. This position differs from the certificated position of School Nurse-Teacher in that there is no responsibility for either classroom instruction or guidance involved. The work is performed under the general direction of a School Physician or School Nurse-Teacher. Supervision may be exercised over the work of clerical assistants.

 

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

  • Assists the School Physician in physical, visual and auditory screening examinations of students and employees;
  • Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees;
  • Prepares and maintains health records for school authorities;
  • Assists at school immunization clinics;
  • Arranges to transport sick or injured students or employees to hospital, home, doctor's or dentist's office in case of an emergency;
  • Inspects the school plant, playground, and cafeteria, and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions;
  • Orders inventories and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment;
  • Consults with attendance teachers, staff members and school nurse-teachers concerning a variety of health factors related to non-attendance and communicable disease;
  • Prepares records and reports as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the State Education Department from a course approved by such a department as qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS: Eligibility for a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. Possession of the license at time of appointment.

The Rome City School District is anticipating a vacancy for a one to one Teacher Aide. In this role, you will provide individualized support to a student with special needs, while also assisting teachers and administrators with various classroom and non-instructional tasks. Your support will help foster a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment tailored to students who require additional academic and behavioral support.

As a Teacher Aide, you will play a key role in helping students successfully navigate the school day by offering consistent guidance, supervision, and encouragement.

Position Overview & Compensation

  • Schedule: 10-month position, 6 hours per day.

  • Starting Salary: $18.80 per hour + competitive benefits package.

  • Growth Opportunity: Teacher Aides may choose to obtain their Teacher Assistant certification to qualify for a higher rate of pay within the district.

Qualified candidates should possess a high school diploma/GED and have a strong ability to build supportive relationships with students and the flexibility to meet individual needs in a school setting. Experience in education or working with children is a plus.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This title is employed for positions which are created for the main purpose of relieving school personnel, assisting teachers and administrators of that part of their duties, which while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel.

  • Assists with daily attendance;

  • Assists with general library functions;

  • Performs simple clerical duties – may include phone calls;

  • Oversees students in non-structured periods (i.e., breakfast, lunch, playground, bus duty, before and after school);

  • Supervises in-school suspension, time-out and lunch detention.
