The Rome City School District is accepting applications for a full-time 12-month Dean of Students position at Strough Middley School. Selected candidate must possess NYS School Building Leader certification.

The Dean of Students (DOS) is a full-time position and a key member of the school’s leadership team, supporting the daily operations of the building with a focus on student attendance, behavior, and discipline. Emphasizing Restorative Justice and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the DOS works collaboratively with students, staff, and families to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. The DOS plays a central role in fostering a positive school culture rooted in accountability and care, aligning student behavior with district values and academic expectations. This position also supports building administrators in implementing a meaningful instructional program reflective of the Rome City School District community.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the philosophy and vision of the Rome City School District.

  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents/caregivers to create a safe, engaging, and positive school climate. 

  • Collaborate with all faculty, staff, students, parents, and caregivers to ascertain and address at-risk student behaviors, providing guidance and motivation for student success. 

  • Collaborate with the building’s administrative team to develop and facilitate appropriate restorative practices and procedures resulting in meaningful, fair, and effective discipline alternatives for students. 

  • Assist in facilitating and implementing disciplinary intervention steps, including restorative practices, RTI, PBIS, student mediation, and social-emotional learning strategies.

  • Assist in developing the staff’s in-class behavior management strategies. 

  • Assist in providing professional development in classroom management strategies, issues of discipline, and relationships with students. 

  • Meet with students referred by teachers for behavioral difficulties.

  • Engage students and parents relative to the school’s expectations for attendance and on-time arrival. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Throughout the term of employment, one must possess and maintain NYS School Building Leader (SBL) Certification.

  • Demonstrated commitment to preparing every student for academic and life success. 

  • Demonstrated awareness of, and a strong willingness to support the Rome City School District’s commitment to eliminating race, class, disability, and gender as predictors of academic performance, co-curricular participation, and discipline. 

  • Demonstrated ability in human relations and a strong desire to work positively, and sensitively with all students, especially students who present with significant behavioral, emotional, mental health, and/or instructional needs. 

  • Must demonstrate an exceptional level of professionalism, tact, and courtesy.

  • Must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Proven ability to engage and support all students, caregivers, and stakeholders to build an effective and collaborative school community. 

  • Working knowledge of federal and New York State Department of Education policies and procedures.

The Rome City School District is seeking an innovative and student-centered Technology Teacher for Strough Middle School. The successful candidate will engage students in hands-on learning experiences that develop problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and technological literacy. This educator will foster an engaging classroom environment where students explore technology concepts while building skills that prepare them for future academic and career opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State Technology Education certification (or eligibility for certification).

  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills.

  • Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

  • Knowledge of current instructional technology and best practices in middle school education.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
