The Rome City School District is seeking dependable, motivated, and adaptable individuals to join our district team as Non-Teaching Substitutes. Non-teaching substitute roles are vital to keeping our schools running smoothly, supporting daily school operations, and ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all students and staff.

Substitute positions are available across various school buildings and departments on an as-needed basis.

We are accepting substitute applications for the following non-instructional areas:

  • School & Classroom Support: Teacher Aide, School Monitor, Teacher Assistant

  • Office Support: Secretarial/Clerical

  • Facilities & Operations: Custodial Worker/Cleaner

  • Food Services: Food Service Helpers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide reliable coverage on an on-call or scheduled basis when permanent staff members are absent.

  • Follow instructions and guidance provided by building administrators, classroom teachers, or department supervisors.

  • Maintain a positive, safe, and professional environment for students and staff.

  • Adapt quickly to different school layouts, duties, and operational procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Ability to work effectively with students, school staff, and community members.

  • Strong communication, punctuality, and flexibility.

  • Fingerprint clearance / background check required prior to employment.

Whether you are a certified teacher, a college graduate, a retired educator, or someone who enjoys working with students, substitute teaching is a great opportunity to make a difference in a student's day while gaining valuable experience in our schools.

Substitute Teacher opportunities are available across Elementary, Middle, and High School grade levels and a variety of subject areas.

Substitute Teacher Rates:

$164.49 per day for a 6-hour assignment

$143.26 per day for a 6-hour assignment

What You'll Do

  • Follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and instructions provided by the regular classroom teacher.

  • Provide meaningful learning activities that support the teacher's instructional objectives.

  • Create a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.

  • Use sound judgment and flexibility when lesson plans or instructions are unavailable.

  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.

  • Take accurate attendance and follow district procedures.

  • Leave appropriate notes for the regular classroom teacher regarding classroom activities, student progress, and any significant concerns.

  • Adapt to different grade levels, subject areas, classrooms, and school buildings.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applicants with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or at least 60 college credit hours.

  • Experience working with children or youth, classroom experience, coaching, mentoring, tutoring, or other related experience is preferred.

  • Teaching certification is preferred but not required.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills.

  • Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in a variety of educational environments.

  • Ability to follow directions, exercise sound judgment, and work independently.

  • Successful completion of required fingerprinting and background clearance prior to employment.

Flexible Assignment Opportunities

Substitute Teachers may accept daily/on-call assignments based on district needs and their availability. Long-term assignments may also be available.
