The Dean of Students (DOS) is a full-time position and a key member of the school’s leadership team, supporting the daily operations of the building with a focus on student attendance, behavior, and discipline. Emphasizing Restorative Justice and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the DOS works collaboratively with students, staff, and families to promote a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment. The DOS plays a central role in fostering a positive school culture rooted in accountability and care, aligning student behavior with district values and academic expectations. This position also supports building administrators in implementing a meaningful instructional program reflective of the Rome City School District community.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the philosophy and vision of the Rome City School District.
  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents/caregivers to create a safe, engaging, and positive school climate. 
  • Collaborate with all faculty, staff, students, parents, and caregivers to ascertain and address at-risk student behaviors, providing guidance and motivation for student success. 
  • Collaborate with the building’s administrative team to develop and facilitate appropriate restorative practices and procedures resulting in meaningful, fair, and effective discipline alternatives for students. 
  • Assist in facilitating and implementing disciplinary intervention steps, including restorative practices, RTI, PBIS, student mediation, and social-emotional learning strategies.
  • Assist in developing the staff’s in-class behavior management strategies. 
  • Assist in providing professional development in classroom management strategies, issues of discipline, and relationships with students. 
  • Meet with students referred by teachers for behavioral difficulties.
  • Engage students and parents relative to the school’s expectations for attendance and on-time arrival. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Throughout the term of employment, one must possess and maintain NYS School Building Leader (SBL) Certification.

The Rome City School District is seeking qualified and experienced Substitute School Building Administrators to provide leadership and administrative support on a per diem basis. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth and effective operation of the school, maintain a positive learning environment, and support students, staff, and families in alignment with district policies and goals.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily school operations and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment.
  • Supervise and support faculty, staff and students.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and district administration.
  • Enforce district policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Manage student discipline and attendance.
  • Support instructional programs and staff development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of prior successful experience in school administration or building-level leadership.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills.

The Rome City School District welcomes applications from candidates who are currently enrolled in a School Psychology graduate program and are eligible to complete a supervised internship, practicum, or field placement as part of their certification requirements. Qualified candidates will be paired with an experienced, New York State-certified School Psychologist who will serve as a mentor and supervisor. The District will provide the supervision, guidance, and performance evaluations necessary to support the completion of required clinical and fieldwork hours toward New York State certification/licensure. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in a diverse Pre-K–12 educational setting while receiving ongoing professional support and development.

Position Overview:

The School Psychologist plays a critical role in promoting student success by applying psychological and educational expertise to support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and behavioral well-being. This position involves collaboration with educators, families, and outside agencies to assess student needs, develop targeted interventions, and support data-driven decision-making for students in Pre-K through grade 12.

This role may require occasional flexibility in scheduling to accommodate meetings with families or partner agencies outside of the traditional school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychological evaluations aligned with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze academic, behavioral, and social-emotional data to inform instructional planning and eligibility determinations.
