The Rome City School District is currently accepting applications for a School Monitor at Clough Early Elementary from 10:15am - 2:00pm, Monday - Friday.

School Monitors play an important role in supporting a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students by assisting with non-instructional duties and student supervision throughout the school day.

This is a 10-month position, working 3.75 hours per day, and responsibilities may include supervising students during lunch, recess, and study periods; monitoring hallways, entrances, and other common areas; assisting younger children with outerwear; and performing light clerical tasks or basic first aid as needed. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children and are looking for a meaningful role in the school setting.

There are no formal education requirements for this position, but experience working with children and familiarity with school routines is helpful. Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to maintain a calm and respectful presence are essential.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Helps school teachers by assisting in routine non-teaching duties including pupil supervision. Does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is work of ordinary difficulty involving responsibility for assisting teachers by performing assigned routine tasks, including the supervision and care of children. Since there are definite limits on the type and complexity of assignments, the class of School Monitor differs in that respect from Teacher Aide, which usually involves duties of greater difficulty, generally requiring

specific skills and abilities.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

  • Assists teachers in supervising recreation and lunch periods and study halls;
  • Guides children safely across streets and intersections;
  • Maintains order in gymnasiums, locker rooms, and swimming pools;
  • Oversees students passing between classes and in locker rooms and on premises before and after school;
  • Issues athletic supplies and equipment;
  • Helps children in lower grades with wearing apparel;
  • May perform simple clerical duties under close supervision;
  • May render elementary first aid treatment.

The Rome City School District is anticipating a vacancy for a one to one Teacher Aide. In this role, you will provide individualized support to a student with special needs, while also assisting teachers and administrators with various classroom and non-instructional tasks. Your support will help foster a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment tailored to students who require additional academic and behavioral support.

As a Teacher Aide, you will play a key role in helping students successfully navigate the school day by offering consistent guidance, supervision, and encouragement.

Position Overview & Compensation

  • Schedule: 10-month position, 6 hours per day.

  • Starting Salary: $18.80 per hour + competitive benefits package.

  • Growth Opportunity: Teacher Aides may choose to obtain their Teacher Assistant certification to qualify for a higher rate of pay within the district.

Qualified candidates should possess a high school diploma/GED and have a strong ability to build supportive relationships with students and the flexibility to meet individual needs in a school setting. Experience in education or working with children is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either:

  1. Graduation from high school, supplemented by additional experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved;  OR

  2. Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists school teachers and administrators in the performance of teaching and non-teaching functions by performing varied operational duties associated with the teaching process within the building setting.  Does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This title is employed for positions which are created for the main purpose of relieving school personnel, assisting teachers and administrators of that part of their duties, which while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative only)

  • Assists with daily attendance;

  • Assists with general library functions;

  • Performs simple clerical duties – may include phone calls;

  • Oversees students in non-structured periods (i.e., breakfast, lunch, playground, bus duty, before and after school);

  • Supervises in-school suspension, time-out and lunch detention.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Good general intelligence;

  • Ability to establish good relationships with children and others;

  • Familiarity with classroom and/or library routine;
