The Rome City School District welcomes applications from candidates who are currently enrolled in a School Psychology graduate program and are eligible to complete a supervised internship, practicum, or field placement as part of their certification requirements. Qualified candidates will be paired with an experienced, New York State-certified School Psychologist who will serve as a mentor and supervisor. The District will provide the supervision, guidance, and performance evaluations necessary to support the completion of required clinical and fieldwork hours toward New York State certification/licensure. This opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience in a diverse Pre-K–12 educational setting while receiving ongoing professional support and development.
Position Overview:
The School Psychologist plays a critical role in promoting student success by applying psychological and educational expertise to support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and behavioral well-being. This position involves collaboration with educators, families, and outside agencies to assess student needs, develop targeted interventions, and support data-driven decision-making for students in Pre-K through grade 12.
This role may require occasional flexibility in scheduling to accommodate meetings with families or partner agencies outside of the traditional school day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct psychological evaluations aligned with professional and regulatory standards.
- Analyze academic, behavioral, and social-emotional data to inform instructional planning and eligibility determinations.
- Consider cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic factors when evaluating students.
- Synthesize multiple data sources to develop recommendations for programming and support.
- Design and implement evidence-based academic and behavioral interventions.
- Provide counseling and skill-building support to students.
- May be required to run CSE meetings to monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data.
- Support development of positive learning environments that foster student engagement and resilience.
- Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to address barriers to learning.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP development and review.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to promote positive behavioral interventions.
- Support development and implementation of prevention programs and initiatives that promote safe and supportive school environments.
Qualifications:
- Valid New York State certification as a School Psychologist.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong assessment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in diverse school settings.
- Training or experience in culturally responsive practices.
- Ability to travel between district sites; mileage reimbursement provided.
