The Rome City School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Music Teacher – Orchestra to provide elementary instrumental music instruction across three district schools. This is a split position, with approximately one-third of the assignment at each of the following schools: Bellamy Elementary, John Joy Elementary, and Stokes Elementary.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic music educator who inspires students through high-quality orchestra instruction, develops foundational musical skills, and fosters a positive and inclusive learning environment for young musicians.
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality orchestra instruction to elementary students at Bellamy, John Joy, and Stokes Elementary Schools.

Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned music lessons appropriate for elementary-aged students.

Teach foundational skills in string instruments, including proper technique, music reading, ensemble performance, and musicianship.

Differentiate instruction to meet the varied developmental, musical, and learning needs of students.

Foster student interest, confidence, creativity, and appreciation for music.

Establish and maintain a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment.

Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback to support continued musical growth.

Collaborate with classroom teachers, music colleagues, building administrators, and families to support student success.

Prepare students for performances, concerts, and other district or school-based musical events.

Maintain an organized and safe learning environment and appropriately care for district musical instruments and equipment.

Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and other school and district activities as required.
Qualifications

New York State certification in Music (K-12) or eligibility for the appropriate New York State certification.

Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in orchestra/string instruction.

Experience teaching music at the elementary level preferred.

Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Ability to build positive relationships with students and create an engaging learning environment.
