Job Description

The Rome City School District is seeking a qualified, student-centered educator to serve as a Substitute Elementary Music Teacher for an anticipated 12 week leave replacement assignment. The successful candidate will provide engaging, high-quality general music instruction while fostering a positive, creative, and supportive learning environment for elementary students. Responsibilities include implementing established curriculum, planning and delivering standards-based instruction, assessing student progress, collaborating with colleagues, communicating with families, and maintaining continuity of instruction throughout the duration of the assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging elementary general music instruction aligned with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.

  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages creativity, musical exploration, participation, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

  • Assess student learning and maintain accurate records of attendance and progress.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, special education staff, and related service providers to support student success.

  • Maintain effective classroom management and build positive relationships with students and families.

  • Prepare students for grade-level performances and school music activities, as appropriate.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State Certification in Music (or eligibility for certification).

  • Strong instructional, classroom management, and communication skills.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Experience teaching elementary music is preferred but not required.
