The Rome City School District is seeking an Interim Assistant Principal for an anticipated 3- to 4-month assignment. The successful candidate will provide instructional and operational leadership, support students, staff, and families, and help maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while ensuring continuity during the transition to a permanent assistant principal. This assignment offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced educational leader to demonstrate their skills and may lead to consideration for permanent employment, based on district needs and the successful completion of the selection process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
School Administration

Assists in the daily administration and operation of the school.

Serves as Acting Principal during the Principal's absence.

Ensures building operations are conducted in accordance with District policies, administrative procedures, and applicable labor agreements.

Participates in long-range planning, school improvement initiatives, and program evaluation.

Assists in preparing reports and maintaining required records.
Instructional Leadership
-
Supports the implementation of district curriculum, instructional programs, and building initiatives.

Assists in assessing academic programs through the collection and analysis of student achievement data.

Supports teachers in instructional practices and departmental initiatives.

Assists in planning and facilitating professional development opportunities.

Maintains current knowledge of educational best practices, curriculum innovations, and instructional strategies.
Staff Supervision and Development
-
Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting professional staff.

Supports the orientation and mentoring of new teachers.

Provides guidance to teachers regarding instruction, classroom management, student discipline, and family engagement.

Assists in the supervision and evaluation of instructional and ancillary personnel.

Supports the management of school office operations.
Student Services and School Climate

Assists in developing programs that support student learning and well-being.

Helps maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school environment.

Assists with student discipline and behavioral interventions.

Supports supervision before, during, and after the school day, including arrival, dismissal, bus procedures, cafeteria, recreation, assemblies, performances, and extracurricular activities.

Assists with parent conferences and communication regarding student progress.
Shared Decision Making and School Improvement

Participates in Shared Decision Making processes and committees.

Assists with gathering and analyzing data to support school improvement initiatives.

Collaborates with faculty, staff, and committees in planning and implementing building goals.

Supports communication of school initiatives to staff and families.
Family and Community Engagement

Develops and maintains positive relationships with students, parents, and families.

Participates in parent meetings, conferences, and family engagement activities.

Assists in communicating school news and information to families.

Works collaboratively with community organizations and stakeholders to support educational programs and school initiatives.

Qualifications

Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL) certification, or eligibility as required by the position.

Successful experience in teaching and educational leadership preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, school operations, and student discipline.
