Substitute School Social Worker – Leave Coverage
October 2026 – February 2027
The Rome City School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substitute School Social Worker to provide temporary coverage for a leave of absence from October 2026 through February 2027. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the School Social Worker plays a vital role in promoting student well-being and academic success by addressing social, emotional, and environmental barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will provide direct student support, crisis intervention, case management, and evidence-based interventions while fostering strong partnerships among students, families, school staff, and community agencies. The School Social Worker will contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate and respond thoughtfully to the diverse cultural backgrounds, needs, and family dynamics of students.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified social worker to support students and families within a collaborative school environment during a temporary leave assignment.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- New York State School Social Worker Certification.
- New York State licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational, clinical, or community-based setting preferred.
- Knowledge of social-emotional development, trauma-informed practices, and family systems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and case management skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with students, families, school staff, and community agencies.
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements and ethical standards applicable to school social work.
- Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and maintaining confidential student records.
